The Kitchen
The kitchen is actually the front entry of our house and is the first thing people see as they walk in. That's fine with us because we love cooking and entertaining and we hope to have a smashing kitchen one day that will make everyone "ohhh" and "ahhh."
The dining room is integrated into the kitchen. The two rooms combined are about 25 square meters.

Before we took over the house: crappy mismatched tile, uneven floors, a sagging beadboard ceiling.

We exposed all the stonework and replaced the windows and the front door, note our crude attempts at insulating large, gaping holes over top of windows and door!

And here is a photo looking the opposite direction where there was a weird glass wall cutting off the kitchen from the dining room.

We tore out the glass wall out to combine the two rooms into one open space.

Eventually we tore out the beadboard ceiling. When we did we exposed some pretty beams that were unfortunately not sound enough to salvage.

We ended up replacing them with the help of my father-in-law. This was a very messy project and totally disrupted our lives for about a month or more. If you read through my archives you'll see that I nearly lost my mind during this time...

...because of the dust, very old dust.

But the new beams made everything worthwhile
Stay tuned ...
