Bastard of a job finished..."yo, clean-up crew over here guys"
We said goodbye to my in-laws on Saturday night after cooking them their last meal. No it wasn't steamed but it was of the ready-made variety. I think it was quiche. My cooking memory chip has been a little fuzzy lately--a system overload no doubt.
I have to hand it to my father-in-law, the man got a lot of work done in a week! It was very noble of him to come and lend a hand. He is quite handy for a pencil- pusher type, although he often admits that he doesn't understand our taste and is basically following orders. It's true that we have different taste.
I think my mother-in-law was pleased to leave yesterday and I can understand. She had her bags packed and sitting by the door since Saturday morning, haha I think she has a very hard time understanding why we bought this house when we could have easily bought a new apartment for the same price. Well, a very small new apartment that is. I understand because we have the same problem sometimes. She rarely steps foot inside our house if she can help it and hasn't said anything at all about anything since we've started the whole renovation. Some of the results have been damn impressive but I think that either it just simply isn't her taste (she's mentioned this before) or else she can't see the whole picture until it's completely done.
Yesterday Seb and I spent the day cleaning and arranging. I don't even think we made a minor dent in things. We just pieced back together a semblance of our kitchen. There's still so much work to do!
But...:
* The beams got replaced and the ceiling is back in
* The old w.c. got knocked out (the toilet stands completely alone now!)
* The walls got built for the new w.c. and the door is hung (the toilet/sink are not installed yet)
* The wall between the living room and kitchen got knocked out! We now have a 5 foot opening between the rooms and more light
I really want to clean a little more before offering up some pictures. I'd like to show befores and afters anyway. That's always more fun when you can see how hideous it was before....and then how hideous it still is (but in a different new and changed way) after. So, until I get some extra blog time you'll just have to use your imagination.

So now you have a traditional French toilet? A hole in the floor.
At least that is what public toilets were back in 1982 when I went to France.
You know, we spend the first twenty years being raised by our parents and the rest of our lives recovering from it...
Public toilets haven't changed much here Gary. Ours still has a proper seat though. One thing to be thankful for I suppose.
