The terrace boards have arrived

We got the boards for the back terrace this past weekend, yes a sort of plastic wood material not unlike those made popular by Trex. Not exactly in keeping with the restoration theme I know. The back deck terrace will get a ton of snow cover, not to mention the increasing rains we've been having here each year, so we thought something easier to upkeep would be a smarter choice.
We searched and searched for the weathered version I'd seen a lot in Florida recently. It's lovely and looks like something that might have been more in the style of our house. Instead of this we have a sleeker styled board which we hope doesn't look too modern against the backdrop of the house. We're usually pretty careful about stuff like that. It didn't help that one of our neighbors came by as we were unloading it all, a fellow renovater, and made a comment to the effect of "you know that's not real wood right because it's plastic that stuff." And then he just wrinkled his nose and strolled off not saying anything else! I was a little miffed because he was being self rightous about it but Seb rightly pointed out that he's on the board of a local committee that protects the village patrimoine and I suppose and he could make the project difficult for us if he felt like delving into it.

We didn't get the clips yet to attach the boards so we just laid them out to see what it looked like. The effect was marvelous and it seems the perfect place for Little S to romp and for us to have a few drinks with friends and uh, er neighbors.
Here's the view from the back. Squint and I guarantee you will see the lake, the mountains and Switzerland, even if you are standing on plastic when you do it.

idyllic even on synthetic wood-sometimes you have to be practical!
Never mind the material - just look at the view!
How great to renovate your house in France. Have you been able to find work there? I am building a house with my husband in Marrakesh - so not so far away from you. Are you finding purchases of materials in France expensive?
