Choosing a mirror and lights, wanna help?
It's time to choose the mirror and lights for our bathroom. Since we don't have a really large budget we unfortunately have to cut some corners. We're shopping at cost effective stores like Ikea and some other local stores in our area. It's not easy attempting to piece together a brilliant retro bathroom with what's available, but I think we can do it.
Because our exact style hasn't been pinpointed there's still some room to play around with the decor. The style of the bathroom is obviously vintage with our pedestal sink, matching toilet & claw-foot bathtub purchased eons ago when we thought we'd install the bathroom "right away". It all more or less corresponds to the 1920-1940 eras. We haven't chosen the faucets or any accessories like towel racks or toilet paper holders.
Here are some photos of my low budget finds for the sink's mirror and lights. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Even if you don't know why you like it, please vote for the ensemble you like the most.
First here are the MIRROR choices:
1
2
we'd add a mirror to the door and paint it white
3
4
we'd probably paint it white or bronze
And here are the LIGHTING choices (we'd buy a pair and they would be placed on either side of the mirror):
1
We might-could lose the dangly beads. I'm not sure how I feel about them. The green globe alone is very pretty.
2
3
4
5

Hmmm...for a fisherman's cottage, I am picking 1 for the mirror and 3 for the light. They feel the most cottagey to me...
BTW, we come to Geneva every year to visit our best friends. There are really cheap flights between Geneva and Morocco. Yippee!
Salut!
I would definitely pick number 1 for the mirror! In my opinion, 3 is too "modern", 4 is too romantic (but that is just my taste...)
For the lights I'd choose 4, but please don't ask me why. I just like it :-)
Bonne dimanche!

I like mirror #4 and light #4. Light #2 is okay, too.
Of course, I do like the little shelf on mirror #1.
Good luck choosing!
I would definitely choose 1 for the mirror, although 2 would offer more storage space. And for the lights, 3 or 4.
I like mirror #4 and light #2 or #5.
It seems like none of us are agreeing - I hope we arent making it harder to choose.
Mirror number 1 and none of the lights, I would say get a light that faces up, so that the light bulb is not shining in your eyes when you are "down low" ie on the toilet in the bath tub, etc... redoute sp? has some cute stuff. I found two sconces at the troc (in baby room now,I painted them) so don't forget about those places too...how could you not?
I like mirror 1 and light 4. If you don't have storage behind the mirror, as in mirror choice 2, will you have it somewhere else?
I'd pick mirror 1 and globe lights. This coming from someone with old crusty brocante finds for mirrors and a bare lightbulb hanging by the wires in her bathroom for the past two years. Hmm, maybe we should finish our bathroom!
I'm a mirror 1 and light 4 gal too. However, mirror 4 would be nice if storage is not an issue and pair it with light 1 for a bit more varying texture.
I recall when you had no bathroom- must be nice to be at this point.
Definitely #1 for the mirror. Don't get into having to do more work!!! And the lights, it's a toss up between 3 and 4. I like both and I'd have to see around your house more to see if brass is better looking or not...
LOL - and the only place I can think of is IKEA Morges or wherever it is. I guess I'm so set in my ways and loved California for that, so much variety...
IS there a comparable migros there on your side? We always got stuff from Vevey since Montreux has nothing.
Hope this helps. ;-)
mirror 1 light 4
mirror's an easy choice for me--no extra work and for the lights 1-green won't tie in with your white stuff as well. 2. lots of metal, little warmth. 3. bug trap--they can fly in, but they can't climb out. 5. Is that fabric? cleaning'll be a mutha. 6. Gimme simple lines.
Do you have a brico depot araound? We've been able to find lots of good quality lighting there for not mucho dinero--like cheaper than IKEA!!!! at times.
Riana that's a good point. They'll be one of three sets of lights though so I can turn them off when I'm bathrin or otherwise "detained."
Meredith we'll have some other storage. The medicine cabinet would be froo-froo storage for toothpaste & toothbrushes. We could probably do without it.
Doc those are all good points. Thanks for the thorough "review" of all the choices. You are a brico-diva!
mirror #1, light #4. Would the lights have a wall switch or do you have to have the pull chain? I'd suggest if possible one of those motion sensor light switches. Really great for at night.

I like mirror #2 and #3. Light #2 is nice as well.
